Criteria for spotlighting concepts in regard to modern and historical buildings take into consideration required levels of illumination, the colour temperature to be used and colour rendering.
The required lighting level is determined by the location of the building and its surrounding brightness. Higher lighting levels within inner-city areas are more important than in rural areas, and the brightness of the building, i.e. its degree of light reflection also play a role - dark objects need more light. The spotlighting of monuments, i.e. the staging or putting on show of very large architectural objects requires projectors with a very high level of performance.
