The first HDTV-compliant LED sport lighting worldwide

The LED floodlight SiCOMPACT® FL MIDI S from Siteco is the world's first LED floodlight enabling sports lighting with LED technology that not only efficiently fulfills standards but also offers HDTV-compliant light for high-speed recording. 

Optimal light for super slow-motion
A striker about to take the decisive kick, each individual face muscle is strained... scenes like this make super slow-motion possible. Recording is with approximately 300 frames per second, and light is of decisive importance. Conventional lighting is usually pulsed with 50 Hertz, and this can be clearly seen in recordings from around 200 frames per second (Background: HDTV and super slow-motion).
The LED floodlight has been developed precisely for this demand. So far that's a world's first in sports lighting.
Practical testing was carried out by Siteco in the studios of PLAZAMEDIA in Ismaning. The result: the high-speed recordings are flicker-free even at 1000 frames under Siteco's LED lighting. Here's the video for the test.

Standard-compliant light for sports
The new solution is being implemented for the first time in the ratiopharm arena in Ulm/Neu-Ulm, Germany. A total of 350 LED floodlights illuminate the playing area, tribunes and stairways. The modular system has been developed by the  operator Max Bögl together with Siteco.
In the future the federal league basketball players from ratiopharm Ulm will be hosting their home games in the new arena, and this is why the lighting solution complies with the FIBA demands for HDTV-compliant broadcasting. In addition to vertical illuminance of 2000 lux, high homogeneity and good colour rendering are also ensured. 

Flexible control and event-related lighting
The hall is simultaneously used for hosting events. Flexible use, flexible lighting. The floodlights can be individually controlled via DMX and can be steplessly dimmed; only as much power is used as light is needed.

LED savings potential: efficiency, dimming and simple maintenance
The LED floodlights ensure highly efficient illumination, and significantly more than a third of energy is saved according to the specific lighting situation. In testing conditions the floodlights still emitted suitable light for HD recording with 300 frames even at 30% power reduction. In addition, the LED solution hardly needs maintenance. Compared to conventional lamps with 4,000 to 8,000 hours of service life the LED floodlight achieves 50,000 hours.

High level of light comfort for players
Regional league table-tennis player Michael Hagmüller confirms that the light emitted onto the playing area by the SiCOMPACT® FL MIDI S is also very pleasant. In testing conditions in the studio he played under conventional lighting and with the LED light. Hagmüller: "LED was really comfortable because everything was bright but nothing caused glare. I found the other light sometimes very shrill."
