Virtual Airport Takes Off With Siteco Light

The town of Fürth now has an airport that with respect to size confidently takes a place in the top ten of german airports - even though no aeroplanes actually take off or land. The Siemens Airport Center, as the new airport facilities testing and development site is called, has been equipped with lighting solutions from Siteco.

The Siemens Group has built a unique 9,000m² test and development centre for airport facilities in Fürth, Germany. The complete infrastructure of an airport was built within the Siemens Airport Center (SAC). The core of the facility is a two kilometre-long luggage conveyor belt that can process about 5,000 pieces of luggage per hour. That makes it the third largest in Germany.

190 Siteco Monsun damp-proof luminaires are DALI-controlled to illuminate the building's façade. The system can be switched individually so that the architecture can be set in scene according to needs. 754 Siteco Louvre Luminaires with Cat. Two specular louvres and direct beam distribution produce optimal lighting conditions for the office spaces, and 319 dimmable Siteco Louvre Luminaire XS recessed luminaires provide light for the conference zones. The luminaires with snap-on end caps can be adapted to the ceiling modules.

In the corridors, stairwells, conference zones and toilet areas, Lunis downlights convince with a talent for variation. According to the lighting requirement, and in combination with compact fluorescent lamps and point sources they provide either a uniform illumination or accentuate while staying low-key - according to the wishes of the architect.

The control room is equipped with 12 Quadrature® luminaire modules with ELDACON® technology, providing a new dimension in lighting design and the high lighting quality necessary for VDU work, where the recognition of detail on computer monitors is vital. The luminaires allow for completely blend-free, uniform light although mounted directly above the workstations.

Within the distribution areas of the test and development center, the tried-and-tested DUS trunking system was implemented. 695 trunking modules emit a uniform and bright light so that visitors from all over the world can view in detail the complete luggage transport and sorting facilities, arranged on two storeys.
