A Quantum Leap in the New Casualty Hospital Linz

The new casualty hospital in Linz, Austria, took up work in July 2005. The core of the new development is the operations area where six operating theatres are to be found. The intermediate care-station is used for post-operative treatment where patients require an increased amount of care and attention.

In addition to the hospital development an office building was also constructed, comprising four storeys for 150 employees of the austrian Allgemeinen Unfallversicherungsanstalt (AUVA). A five-storey residential building for hospital personnel was also built. 40,000 ambulatory and 6,000 stationary (in-house) patients are treated annually.

The Siteco lighting concept involves large-area direct and direct/indirect luminaires for T5 fluorescent lamps. In the corridors, stairways and the large lecture hall, Lunis recessed downlights dominate and in the offices and treatment rooms, Comfit M recessed luminaires provide virtually glare-free light.

Because some areas in the operation anterooms required luminaires with IP54, Siteco designed a custom luminaire that functions with either an extruded aluminium louvre or a DARK 60° louvre. The result is absolutely glare-free light, giving a soft spacial illumination.

In the AUVA offices Siteco Mirrortec systems have been installed. The harmonious, glare-free light from the specially developed wall and surface-mounted ceiling luminaire produces a soft wash of light.

The Siteco lighting concept was conceived with modern medicine and a high level of comfort for patients as the guiding factor.
