In the old and abandoned stone-pit, placed between the seaside and a rock wall, the young people of Rijeka founded the first Rijeka football club – Victoria. They built the first playfield with their own hands. This was in 1912, only a few years after the football game in Europe became popular. The stadium is due to its surroundings one of the unique stadiums in the world and can today host over 10.000 spectators.
On August 9th 1975 the stadium shined for the first time in lighting which served well for almost 30 years. In 2005 a complete reconstruction of the stadium took place.
SITECO planned the new lighting according to the UEFA standards.
216 floodlights of 2000 W each were installed.
The reconstruction had to be finished within a period not much longer than a month. The football team of Rijeka played the firs game under the new lighting only 5 days after the floodlights had been installed.
