Siteco Heightens Safety For Complex Road Traffic Project
The Mühlkreis motorway in the region of Linz/Bindermichl counts as one of the most-used traffic conduits in Austria. The subsidence and enclosure of the urban motorway here is the largest noise pollution project of its kind. Siteco developed the lighting concept for a road construction project that was the most complex Austria has yet experienced.
The ever-increasing amount of traffic from and to the A1 West motorway and the associated noise proved to be a major nuisance for the residents of the A7. The underground tunnel of the A7 is a major improvement to the living quality within the area of Bindermichl and Spallerhof. The project consists of a three-lane motorway with an additional hard shoulder in the area of Bindermichl, as well as the modernising and new construction of the motorway within the complete project area, resulting in a relaxation of the situation in both traffic directions.
1543 Siteco tunnel luminaires of stainless steel (NIRO) and 125 Siteco emergency guidance luminaires increase safety and comfort in the dual-channel tunnel in the area of Bindermichl (1062m) as well as the dual-channel section in Niedernhart (580m).
The modern NIRO tunnel luminaires have been mounted as parallel trunking systems within the Bindermichl section. High-pressure sodium lamps ensure perfect visual conditions. The stainless steel housing, a cover of safety glass and an additional protective coating reduce the influences of corrosion. The luminaires have an IP66 protection rating against foreign matters and mechanical impact. The stainless steel ecape guidance luminaires point the direction to emergency exits, emergency call sites and escape routes.
In order to improve safety still further, a so-called intelligent transportation system was installed. This is used for the adjustment of dynamic traffic signals according to current traffic volumes in order to control traffic flow. 126 NIRO custom luminaires are recessed within the lateral concrete surfaces and border the cycle and pedestrian routes that encompass the panorama roundabout.
Siteco SR100 and Sistellar road luminaires as well as S2 MAXI floodlights border the access zones. The Siteco SR100 luminaires have been installed in the access and exit zones, the circular Sistellar luminaires as a glare-free solution in the peripheral entrance and exit areas.
The Siteco S2 MAXI symmetrical beam floodlight has been mounted on high masts for the panorama roundabout. The bifocal reflector system of the floodlights combines high illuminances with low levels of light spill and targetted light control. The tunnel and tunnel housing at Bindermichl in the area of Linz is known as one of the safest traffic projects in Europe, not least due to the implemented lighting solution.
