The M53 motorway is a major road, running from Wallasey on the opposite bank of the River Mersey to Liverpool, along the Wirral Peninsula past Ellesmere Port to just east of Chester. Traffic leaving Liverpool by the Kingsway Tunnel normally continues to the start of the M53, making this route one of the most travelled in the Northwest of England. Siteco provided a lighting solution that makes this hectic highway a more pleasant experience for its many travellers.
The approach to lighting this route was twofold:
Technically accurate roadway lighting that goes above and beyond safety standards to ensure the comfortable use of this road
Inspirational lighting for both pedestrian and vehicular traffic along the Sealand Rail Bridge overpass
To achieve these goals, Siteco’s modified their standard products to optimise the lighting solution. The SQ 200 products used for this project incorporated standard lamp options as well as a customised 600 W lamp. The R1 Mini luminaries incorporated specialised blue lamps with a narrow beam light distribution to accurately feature the structure of the Sealand Rail Bridge.
All of our products, standard or customised, are guaranteed to be of the highest quality. The IP65 rating of these products protects from dust and moisture. A pressure equalisation system with air-permeable membrane within the luminaires prevents build-up of condensation over time, ensuring that the IP rating is maintained over the life of the project. The lighting technology of these products also limits glare and light spill. The result of the lighting solution is a memorable junction on the M53, whether travelling by rail, car, or foot.
