On the 15th March 2007, the Novaluna S suspended luminaire was awarded the Lighting Design Award 2007 in London. The transparent, floating design luminaire from Siteco won the 'Innovation Interior Luminaire' category.
Novaluna S epitomises pure light. Equipped with Eldacon microprismatic technology, it allows high illuminance levels without glare and so offers an ergonomical and flexible light for workplaces. With the heightened use of transparent materials and due to its minimalistic design with a height of only 32mm, the Novaluna S creates ‘all-round light’.
The jury, made up of 15 well-known lighting designers and architects, were impressed by the perfection of the luminaire and declared the Novaluna S to be a ‘great piece of industrial design’. According to the jury it is a real piece of perfection and catches attention with its ‘excellent balance between technology/engineering and aesthetics’.
Awards were givin in total to three product innovations, eleven project solutions and to one lighting designer. As well as Siteco, Speirs and Major were distinguished in three categories and Al Gurdon for Robbie Williams’ stage show. The awards were donated by Lighting Magazine and the Institute of Lighting Engineers, and were supported by the IALD (International Association of Lighting Designers) and lighting industry and electrical engineering associations.
Light All-Round
To minimalise a luminaire design to pure light – that was the aim of the Novaluna designers. The luminaires have an extremely ergonomic and efficient lighting technology and have a weightless, transparent aura. The creative implementation of lighting technology manifests itself in generous, transparent prismatic surfaces that also incorporate the end cap areas – light emission occurs on all four sides of the luminaire.
The floating, bright light of the suspended design Novaluna S variation creates a bridge between people and architecture – it not only makes for balanced lighting conditions but sets light itself in scene akin to a timeless, classical sculpture. In combination with Eldacon technology, the luminaire convinces with a lightness and personality that brings transparency, hightech and an accomplished construction form into unison. The luminaire housing consists of a supporting aluminium profile with a light directing wing constructed of PMMA.
