With the new construction of the county parliament in Innsbruck an emphasis was placed upon a natural and regional design. Modern daylight technology from Siteco makes possible a pleasant and efficient lighting: three inner courtyards bring daylight right into the lowest levels with the aid of prismatic systems and micro sun shielding louvres.

Thanks to a highly modern prismatic technology, daylight was made a decisive factor within the new county parliament. The building planned by the architects Frank + Probst and Bartenbach Lichtlabor allows for the ingress of daylight into the office spaces via two fenestrated inner courtyards. In order that only the advantages of daylight (e.g. brightness) and not the side-effects such as  Thermal build-up and glare are present, Siteco installed various daylight systems. A moveable prism system and a micro sun shielding louvre bring daylight into the lowest levels of the building. They reflect the direct 'hot' sunlight and therefore avoid glare effects and a disturbance of the indoor climate. The intensive zenith light and the incoming 'cool' light from other directions is directed into the interior space, creating optimal viewing conditions.

The four-sided inner courtyard in the volumetric centre of the building was equipped with a moveable prismatic sun shield in order to combine a maximum of transparency (tau = 53-74% according to the angle of the prism structures) and the best possible level of sun shielding (g-value = 20%).
The three-sided inner courtyard situated at the building periphary was equipped with a micro sun shielding louvre integrated within the insulated glass panes. The micro louvre combines a high level of transparency (tau=38%) with excellent sun shielding (g=14%). The direct ‚hot’ sunlight is reflected and the less energy-rich diffuse daylight is directed into the building’s ground level.
The optimisation of maximum light incidence and solar protection with consideration of optical demands of comfort allows not only major economic savings (shorter luminaire switching times, improvement in lamp life etc.) but also optimal viewing conditions for workers and a comfortable ambience without complicated air-conditioning.
