During the Lichtwoche Hannover 2006, the town hall in Hannover was illuminated by Siteco. Because of the positive feedback from residents and the council, it was decided to permanently illuminate the architectural attraction with Siteco instruments. The beauty of the construction was to be especially emphasised during the evening hours in order to underline its function as an architectural eye-catcher.With the intelligent positioning of projectors, the architectural details that lend the town hall the character of a castle have been highlighted and made visible. CB 90 ground recessed projectors were used with variable light beam distribution according to requirements, giving the building in its lower area a pleasant, warm tone. In contrast, the upper part with cupola and gables have been illuminated in cooler light. This was achieved with symmetrical distribution Siteco S2 Midi and S2 Mini projectors mounted onto masts and the roofing. Rotosymmetrical R1 Mini projectors were additionally installed. Asymmetrical beam A2 Mini projectors were anchored at a distance of approx. 15m, giving a uniform façade illumination with minimal light spill. The lighting solution guarantees an unobtrusive lighting of the town hall’s cupola. As a result, the cupola has the appearance of lighting itself from within.
A total of 76 projectors were deployed with a power requirement of 13 kilowatts. The luminaires are distributed so that the light points remain largely invisible to the viewer, rendering the natural, historic aspect of the building intact.
The wilhelminian building within the 10 hectare large Maschpark, designed by Hermann Eggert and Gustav Halmhuber, was inaugrated in June 1913 after a 12 year construction period, and is still one of the most impressive buildings in Hannover.
