When on the 7. June the referee whistles in the start of the first Euro 2008 match between the host country Switzerland and the Czech Republic and the long-awaited European Football Championship 2008 commences, Siteco will also be part of the action with innovative lighting solutions: in the Ernst-Happel Stadium in Vienna, in the Wals-Siezenheim Stadium in Salzburg and the Wörthersee Stadium in Klagenfurth.
More than one million match tickets have been sold to fans so far, and the eight stadiums in Austria and Switzerland are completely sold out. Right up until the last minute the stadiums were adapted, enlarged and modernised to satisfy the special demands of the championships. In order to achive EC standards in terms of lighting, Siteco luminaires were of course installed in the Austrian stadiums.
In the Ernst-Happel stadium in Vienna, Siteco is responsible for flood light systems and tribune illumination. Playing field lighting consists of A2 Maxi floodlights (132 pieces) with 2000W, supplemented with R2 Maxi projectors (140 pieces), also with 2000W. These have been installed alternately in six sectors upon the roofing construction. The A2 Maxi floodlights emit a glare-free and uniform light onto the playing field and a part of the R2 Maxi projectors will be used for the illumination of athletics events. 112 pieces alike of the A2 Mini (150W) and Midi (250W) are responsible for the tribune lighting.
The Salzburg stadium was enlarged by approximately 30,000 roofed seats for the championships. As part of this the stadium lighting was also adapted. For the EC, 214 R2 Maxi floodlights illuminate the playing field that is host to three of the preliminary round matches in Group D. The upper ranges are illuminated with 96 A2 Midi floodlights and the stadium façade with 30 A2 Mini projectors.
The Wörthersee stadium in Klagenfurth was originally the smallest of the Austrian EC stadiums but has been extended from a spectator capacity of 12,500 to 30,000. Siteco luminaires emit light for the whole stadium, excepting playing field and spectator ranks. As part of this, approximately 140 Lunis C downlights were installed into the stairwells, 600 DUS trunking rails in the corridors, 800 Lunis C in the VIP areas and 160 Sylta suspended luminaires in the offices and administration areas of the stadium.
