EPBD -

European Buildings Directive.

EPBD-ready with intelligent ligthing.

The Energy Performance of Building Directive is changing the way buildings are planned, operated and assessed. The focus is on greater energy efficiency, intelligent building control and connected automation.

Lighting also plays an important role thanks to its potential for energy savings.

SITECO supports you in implementing the lighting-related requirements of the EPBD in a compliant way.

What is
the EPBD?

The EPBD (Energy Performance of Buildings Directive) is the EU directive on the energy performance of buildings. It is a key element of European climate policy.

What is
the goal of the EPBD?

The EPBD has a clear goal: buildings in Europe should become more energy-efficient, smarter and, in the long term, zero-emission. From 2028, this standard will apply to new public buildings; from 2030, to all new buildings. By 2050, the entire building stock is expected to follow.

How does
the EPBD affect lighting solutions?

The EPBD also addresses requirements for lighting systems. However, only the respective national implementation is legally binding.

How can SITECO support your lighting on the path to EPBD readiness?

Efficiency potential in existing buildings.

The overall stock of non-residential buildings must improve its energy efficiency by at least 16% by 2030 and 26% by 2033.

A lighting refurbishment is a concrete way to quickly unlock operational savings potential – with modern LED technology, sensors and demand-based control.

Smart Readiness Indicator & building automation.

The Smart Readiness Indicator shows how well buildings are prepared for intelligent technology, automation and demand-based operation.

From 2027, BACS (Building Automation and Control Systems) will become mandatory for large non-residential buildings.

SITECO supports this development with intelligent lighting solutions that connect lighting, sensors and control systems.
