Munich New Town Hall/Cathedral Church of Our Lady (Frauenkirche)/St. Peter

Germany

Graceful lighting for Munich's icons.

Munich’s landmarks glow in a new light. With a lighting concept that doesn’t outshine the city’s iconic skyline, but gently highlights it. The New Town Hall, the Cathedral Church of Our Lady (Frauenkirche), and St. Peter’s emerge as a harmonious ensemble: atmospheric, dignified, clear.

Thanks to narrow beam angles and optimally positioned luminaires, the natural appearance of the materials is emphasized without any glare: the light limestone of the Town Hall, the brickwork of the Cathedral of Our Lady, the plaster and sandstone surfaces of St. Peter's. The technical centerpiece is the high-performance floodlight Sirius: 48 silver-coated reflectors visually break down the light source into individual miniature points. The result: significantly reduced glare for maximum visual comfort - ideal for the sensitive areas around Marienplatz.

Specially manufactured LEDs deliver excellent color rendering at 2,500 K and CRI > 90: materials appear true to life in warm light, while the historic facades are elegantly showcased. In addition, the new lighting is a real bonus in terms of sustainability: precise light control, minimal light spill, maximum reduction of light pollution, and noticeably lower energy consumption.

The new lighting concept adds depth and atmosphere to Marienplatz without disturbing the balance between the lively urban space and the historic backdrop. Munich's iconic buildings form a harmonious triad: subtly highlighted without being obtrusive.
